Contact Lens Consultation

Today's contact lenses provide comfortable and reliable solutions to a wide range of eyesight requirements.

Let's say you're thinking about getting contact lenses - we will then check your eyes to determine which kind of lenses will fit you most accurately and then select the best ones to meet your everyday vision needs.

Corrective contact lenses are used to provide a clear, crisp vision for individuals who are dealing with either one or a combination of the following vision impairments:

  • Nearsightedness (myopia)
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia)
  • Blurred vision (astigmatism)
  • Age-related loss of close-up vision (presbyopia)

We also offer hard-to-fit contact lenses to treat eye irregularities related to disease or injury.

Choosing the correct type of contact lenses to provide a healthy and comfortable vision experience is based on your prescription, eye shape and daily needs. At Wayne Smith Optometrists, we measure your eyes to select the proper lens type and fit and determine the precise amount of vision correction required.

The following types of contact lenses are available:

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft contact lenses are currently the most popular and comfortable type. These contact lenses are incredibly easy to wear, supple and flexible due to their high water content. Soft contact lenses come in various designs and can be purchased as disposables, extended-wear, or daily lenses.

Daily-Wear Contact Lenses

Soft lenses intended to be worn during the day and removed at night are known as daily-wear disposable contact lenses. Disposable contact lenses are a standard option for many people who wear contact lenses since they are far more convenient and require less upkeep than other types.

Extended-Wear Contact Lenses

Extended-wear contact lenses can be worn both daily and overnight for longer periods. While some can be worn for one to two weeks of continuous wear, others can be worn for up to 30 days. Available as either gas-permeable or soft contact lenses, an extended-wear contact lens prescription offers the convenience of not frequently removing your contact lenses for maintenance and the benefit of waking up to clear, crisp vision. However, extended-wear lenses may pose a higher risk of infection without proper care.

Rigid Gas-Permeable Lenses

More rigid and durable than soft contact lenses, rigid gas-permeable contact lenses allow a healthy flow of oxygen to reach the eye. More resistant to lens deposits than soft contact lenses, rigid-gas permeable lenses do not need to be replaced as often and are less likely to harbour bacteria. Though they might take some time to get used to, rigid gas-permeable lenses do provide a crisper, clearer vision than soft contact lenses.

Toric Contact Lenses

Toric contact lenses are specially designed contact lenses used to help correct astigmatism. Typically available as soft contact lenses, some toric contact lenses also come in a rigid gas-permeable version.

Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses

For people with refractive problems and age-related presbyopia, bifocal contact lenses include two prescriptions in each lens to improve near and distance vision. Multifocal contact lenses include more than one type of lens prescription to provide clear vision for objects at various distances.

Your vision is in the very best of hands at Wayne Smith Optometrists. From assessing the health of your eyes to prescribing and accurately fitting you with just the right pair of contact lenses and instructing you in the proper methods of care, we are with you every step of the way.
